Watch out, Shakira...

No really, I might injure those around me when I attempt this...
I have decided to learn to bellydance. Two weeks ago while out at a Turkish Restaurant in NYC I got to watch some dancing up close. It was fabulous, so sensual and sexy and female and seductive. Working out at Curves has its place; it has been helpful, no doubt, but I am getting bored, and this seems like a fun adventure, so long as I don't herniate a disk in the process. Of course, this could all be a ruse I am creating just to have a reason to wear something like this...or this...

Nici, PLEASE tell me all about it! I've been dying to sign up for a class, but I don't have anyone to do it with me, and for some reason I'm being shy about going alone.

Good for you! Maybe you're stories about it will inspire me to take the plunge too.

The best thing about belly dancing? You're supposed to have a belly! My genetically preordained paunch loves that.

Nici, it's me Ruth from AV group. You dinged my finger symbols with this post. DO it..Do it...Do it...you won't regret it,an experience you'll not soon forget. I took classes from a wonderful teacher 20 years ago...and I still dance today as a interesting workout and mood lifter. I loved it so much I taught belly dancing at the Y for a year or so. Maybe it was my teacher and the students that were so cool..I don't know, but if you can find a good teacher...mine was from Lebanon...and she was incredible. She could flip quarters on her tummy. She taught us how to make our costumes...and my hubby took me to New Orleans to a unique fabric place...and I loaded up with coins, jewels and gorgeous fabrics. I bought a push up bra...and started beading and sewing coins and old antique jewelry on it..I have a picture somewhere in my stuff..mine weren't as low on the hip as what you posted...and we also made the veils. Not to mention the wonderful evenings when the kiddies were away...dancing for my guy...with a tray of fruit, wine and cheese...candles all around...and the music will take you into another century. Sorry I got so excited..I just remember how fun it was to do something so different than aerobics and yoga. Takes inches off your waist in weeks..just as a little incentive.
Wish we could all take classes together...that would be a hoot. Again, DO IT!!
